Why Do I Need a Legal DNA Test?

Divorce

While paternity isn’t always up to debate during a divorce, when infidelity is involved, one or both parties may want to get a paternity test.

Child Support

If paternity is in question, one or both parties may want to ensure a judge that the non-custodial parent is indeed the father of the child.

Immigration

Children of American citizens born overseas must undergo a DNA test in order to claim their American citizenship.

Adoption

While not every adopted child wants to meet their biological parents, some do, and DNA testing from DATCS can help.

Estates & Wills

Though rare, sometimes in an inheritance case, there may be children who require a DNA test to prove parentage.

Court Orders

Occasionally, the Texas State Attorney General’s office will mandate DNA testing in a child support or custody proceeding.

Taxes

If you claim a child on your tax return and you aren’t on the birth certificate, you may need to provide a DNA paternity test to prove parentage.

Getting a Paternity Test at DATCS

DATCS is a walk-in DNA testing facility located on the Loop in Tyler, TX. You should expect the testing process to take about 1 hour for each person involved.

For a legal paternity test, we’ll test the mother, father, and child. We do this with a mouth swab, so the test is minimally invasive. The parties don’t all have to be there at the same time, however.

All participants, including the child, must not have eaten for at least 2 hours prior to the DNA testing. After we collect the samples, verify identification, and take a picture of the test subject, they are free to go.

DNA test results should be available within 3-7 business days. Results are confidential and released only to individuals listed on the release paperwork.
